DISCLAIMER: This isnt an if youre a runner, then your a loser post, at all. If you can be honest with your fitness and say you can run correctly, pain free, & out of pure enjoyment, then I never want to tamper with the consistency and enjoyment one gets from their expression of exercise. However, it is not optimum for a developing young athletes. You can attain aerobic capacity training by other methods. Aerobic training is only one piece of the paradigm of athletic development. Longish distance/low-moderate intensity running is linear and does not allow much room for progression, nor does it touch effectively on agility, balance, strength, coordination, & building the athletes for the specific demands of sport which are dynamic. Running also does little to improve motor control as it is greatly relied upon to improve reactive skills to the unpredictable, sudden, plays that can happen on the field of competition & contact sports. Stay tuned as I will post some recourses that will help build the foundation of movement & performance for your young athlete. -Coach Daniel
