**DUKE UPDATE** Thanks to the specialty DVMs at Animal Emergency & Specialty (AES) of Kirkland we now have a better grasp on Dukes condition and needs. Duke was born with a very rare condition called Hypospadias, his male genitalia was deformed and his urethra placed itself (in utero) right under his anus. As a puppy Duke received a surgery to completely remove all his male parts. Due to his urethra being right below his anus and exposed Duke suffers from chronic UTIs. He is now on a new regimen of food and supplements to try and help stop the cross contamination that causes these UTIs. This will be a life long issue for Duke and constant monitoring/checking of UAs to make sure he does not get or have an active infection. Duke may also require a tail amputation as well to help keep his bottom clean and pain free, but we will address this after we see if this new protocol solves the problems. With his severe deformity we are in no rush to do any surgeries that could potentially make matters worse for him or render him incontinent. At just 14 months old Duke has been through a lot in his short life. He is settling in to his foster home and doing very well and loves his bullie foster brother.
