Database Administrator Remuneration: negotiable Basic salary Province: Western Cape City: City of Cape Town Metro Type: Permanent Reference: #1306411 Job description Environment: Our client based in Cape Town requires a MySQL DBA with in-depth knowledge of writing SQL procedures, applied experience in performing database monitoring and tuning of a SQL complaint database, applied experience in creating and maintaining SQL replication procedures, performing back-up & recovery procedures for an SQL complaint database server, experience with Unix/Linux environment including basis commands and shell scripting, ability to critically assess database schema designs and propose optimizations for optimizations for optimal performance and storage and experience working with multiple projects/tasks and the ability to prioritise on the fly. Duties: Work as part of the data team to perform the following; 24/7 support of production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems. 50% Administration, 30% Report Writing, 10% Data Analysis Performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning of MySQL databases. Management and maintenance of back-ups & recovery procedures. Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments. Reviewing and tuning of reports and stored procedure code. Security and access control. Provision of support and assistance to development team in the design, development, testing, tuning and implementation of database applications Creation and maintenance of SQL queries and routines Provisioning of (database) development and testing environments. Writing ad-hoc queries based on schema knowledge for various reporting requirements. Required to deal with complex data models while producing complex reports. Requirements: Essential skills: In-depth knowledge of writing SQL procedures. Applied experience in performing database monitoring and tuning of an SQL compliant database. Applied experience in creating and maintaining SQL replication procedures, performing back-ups and recovery procedures for an SQL compliant database server. Experience with Unix/Linux environment including basic commands and shell scripting. Ability to critically assess database schema designs and propose optimizations for optimal performance and storage. Experience of working with multiple projects/tasks and the ability to prioritize on the fly. An interest in data warehousing. Hard working but easy-going manner. Familiarity with MySQL specific tools and utilities. Knowledge of open source environments. Good documenting skills. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
