Date Built ~ No information; character indicates circa. 1789. Orig Owner ~ Deacon Lum Present Owner [1935-37] ~Mary Crowley Location~ Faces north at 38 Pearl Street; fourth house west from corner of Maple Street;.1 mile east of Route 115. Building Material~ Wood Roof ~ Dutch Chimney Type/No.of ~ Central Height ~ Story and half / with full basement story at front, extending out under piazza. Fenestration (windows)~ 2 windows each side of front door; mostly 1/1 sash. Overhang ~ None Foundation ~ Stone Exterior ~ Unusual type of house and without doubt late eighteenth century. The basement, full story height, extends out under the floor of the piazza which extents across the entire front. The stone masonry basement wall is of the same character as the rest of the foundation. This fact, and the appearance of the detail of the wood piazza above would seem to indicate that both piazza and basement story are old, possibly of the same date as the main house. Whatever were the means of approach to the piazza from the ground, they have disappeared. The walls are clapboarded. The house is situated on ground rising sharply from the street to the rear. Doorway ~ The entrance doorway from the piazza has a molded casing, seven-light transom, and original double doors which are five raised panels outside and flush beaded boards inside with wide strap hinges. Interior ~ Northeast room - feather-edge boards over dog-eared fireplace now papered over. Corner cupboard. Simple raised paneled doors. Purled raised work. Northwest room - fireplace wall almost entirely covered with raised paneling; one panel over fireplace measures 34 x 35; cornice at top of panel work. Kitchen - fireplace and Dutch oven closed. Stairway - original closed stringer stair; heavily molded; square posts; short turned balusters. Doors with four raised panels on one side; six sunken panels on reverse side; feather-edge and beaded board doors. Flared and cased corner posts. Old wide board flooring. One second floor room entirely sheathed in beaded boards. Disclosure ~ Photo was was not cropped , but was increased by twenty five percent in size . Friend me if you like old photos of Seymour Conn.
