Day 101 Jacks surgeon arrived at the same time as I did this - TopicsExpress

Day 101 Jacks surgeon arrived at the same time as I did this morning. He looked Jack over again and was really pleased with how this wounds are looking. He said we need to get him checked out when he is four and five to make sure his testicles are down, they are at the moment however after hernia surgery they can go back up. Jack has had a few periods where he looks a bit uncomfortable so has been given Panadol otherwise he is recovering from his hernia surgery really well. During Jacks 9am cares, I spoke to a specialist nurse about Jacks pressures and when they could be reduced to three permanently. At the moment I am turning it down to three just while Im breastfeeding him. She said she will speak to the doctor but explained that a pressure of three isnt really doing much so there would be very little point, although the doctors may decide to try it. She also explained that it is probably best not to try anything different now, so close to going home. If Jack was to get tired from lower pressures etc and started to have frequent bradys and desats they wouldnt know if he was sick or just tried and this could hold us up from getting home. We dont want that!! So you can imagine my surprise when I arrived for Jacks 3pm cares to see Jack was on low flow! During their rounds the doctors decided to change him to low flow because he was doing so well. They always start low flow on 100% oxygen requirement and will slowly wean it down over the following days. He started on 0.25 of a litre, of oxygen but after two successful hours on that was put down to 0.1 of a litre. The low flow has no pressure, just straight oxygen flowing I to his nose via small tubes and prongs. Today Melissa, Mum and I went into Wellington to look at pushchairs for Jack, which Ive been trying to research for ages now. I figure they may be cheaper in Wellington than at home. As soon as we found one we wanted to look at, in Baby City, the fire alarms went off and the whole mall needed to be evacuated. We didnt have time to wait round which was a bit annoying as today they had 25% off! We had a nice time in town and visited the awesome Christmas shop again. Im so excited about the prospect of being home for Christmas and hopefully being able to put up my tree next week!! Mum left this afternoon and it was awesome knowing that it will only be a few days until we see her again. Marty arrived and was very excited to see Jack on low flow. I hadnt told him to see if he would notice, which he did immediately. Jack is still doing well with breastfeeding but his progress seems to be slower after his surgery. Tonight he feed for 45 minutes and I decided not to give him a top up but over the following three hours he needed three 20ml top ups. Its so hard judging how much he is getting but I guess I will get used to it.
