Day 5 - Thursday 18th July; 1289 miles on the clock; one more tank of fuel for 70 CHF. It was a cold and rainy night in the Alps but waking up to a sunrise there was totally worth it. We even had fresh mountain water from the spring to make a nice coffee to start the day. We had been looking out for the elusive groundhogs the whole time and then actually got to watch a family on the mountain slope through our binoculars. This was really amazing; they can be quite big, up to 60cm long. We wanted to cover a lot of distance and thought we could be in Liechtenstein by lunch time, but we had totally underestimated the roads and mountain passes in the Alps... I got sick of the millions of curves and corners whilst Tim was enjoying himself as Michael Schumacher. We will need new tyres and break pads soon.... In the end, we got lost and managed to miss Liechtenstein (which is probably easy to miss anyway) and after 7 hours of driving we finally reached the Austrian border... Now we are spending the night near Innsbruck looking forward to a nice cold beer. Or two. Or more...
