Day 69: We had originally planned to stay somewhere in the same - TopicsExpress

Day 69: We had originally planned to stay somewhere in the same area before heading further along the coast but we were quite unimpressed by the area... So we got quite a lot of kilometres under our belts today. We stopped at few places along the way including Loch Sport National Park, paradise beach and sale. While in the national park we stopped at the cherry tree spot on the way to sperm whale head and fed the black swans. We kept driving until we reached Wilsons Promenade National Park so that we could go to the most southern point in mainland Australia. The objective of this Australia trip was to go to all of the extremes of Australia. We had already been to Steep Point, the most Western point of Australia when we were living in Perth. We had already been to the most Northern point on a trip to Cape York that we did with Bens brother and in his wife in September 2010. We have successfully walked to the highest point in Australia, Mount Kosie and all that is left now is the most eastern point in Byron bay which we will go to on our way back to Mackay. Much to our sunrise the campgrounds at Wilsons Promenade is quite commercialised and has all the amenities you could think of including an open air cinemas... It is after all only 2 hours from Melbourne. We arrived at the campgrounds after the visitor centre had shut but there was a sign saying to just park up for the night and come and pay in the morning which I thought was quite cool. I was over joyed by the fact that we could have a hot shower because it had been a few days since our last one. We had pizzas cooked in the camp oven for tea and they were by far the best ones We have made to date... Thanks to Tod Douglas (aka pillow nuts). As you can expect staying in a campground full of tourist.. Our sleep was quite interrupted over night ( well Bens was, I actually slept soundly most of the night). At one stage though we were woken by torchlight because there was a couple of wombats at the bottom of our tent. Afterwards a couple of backpackers turned up and were playing there music eminem pretty loudly but I fell asleep. Ben said they kept him awake for another 2 hours as they were talking loudly about all of our scary Australian animals that were out to attack them including the wombat lol.
