Day 9 was truly amazing in many ways-we left Eucla after power was restored and had a great breakfast before stopping at the border post to admire the sheer size and power of mining equipment being towed behind 2 joined trucks. Shortly after leaving there for the 1st lookout over the Great Australian Bight, we got a text from 3 cars at the tailend, one not so well with a distributor issue. Lo and behold, our mechanic Grant was quick to the rescue and fitted the spare part Merv happened to be carrying and we were all on our way again, stopping at the various roadhouses for fuel and food. The best stop of the day after Lookout 3 was at the whale lookout at the Head of the Bight, about 12km from the Nullarbor Roadhouse. If you ever want to see Southern Right whales and calves in huge numbers playing and lolling about in a totally natural and undisturbed environment, then this is the place to go! One could spend all day waxing lyrically, but the white dunes, turquoise sea and playful whales just made this such a special day. From there, the little Rapier steadily progressed with the rest of the group to Ceduna where we had a lovely dinner and did our usual happy hour and post dinner de-brief. A new element has been added to the 3 best things of the day in that Sheriff Wes now "fines" rallyists, along with his Treasurer, Geoff, a $5 daily infringement of some sort for charity. Nerilee suggested last night that the "fund" at the end of the rally should go to the Flying Doctor Service and we all agreed, having seen many of the highway airstrips they use for emergency landings along our route. Day 10 today we progress to Port Lincoln where we catch up with a local car club and may be able to source spare parts locations, lol ! Needs must ! We plan to stop at local scenic sites and have another great weather day too.
