Days like today are very slow. It happens every Winter, every single year. You lose the weak ones. Just so obvious that my very old chinnies, that have been here for many years outlive all the chinnies I bought in the past few years. I didnt breed the old ones, I bought them before they got messed up. Some good news too today. A very good friend have a chinnie that gave us a big scare. The Vet refused to look at the chinnie because they dont do exotics. Im no Vet but had a look. Because she pays attention and know her chinnies, we will pick up a problem in time to fix it, without the help of a Vet. I now have very few breeding chinnies left that I bought in the past 4 years. All my Std and Hetero Beige females in breeding for Std and Beige were bought over 6 years ago or I bred them. A few are descendents of chinnies I bred and gave to friends. In the beginning, the first few years, I established a big enough gene pool that I will never need Std or Beige from anyone again. The mutations are either bred by me or I got them from Willie. I dont keep babies from pairs I got from other people, they came here to retire, I just dont split established pairs that proved to be good breeders. In most cases I bred the parents anyways. The last unknowns left are Scully and some Std (VC) I got from Willie. They already proved to be good and gave beautiful babies, just not Violet yet. No problem. If you know recessives you will know it might never happen. If it does, it will be a good Violet. We fixed all the pairings that proved to have problems, Roger and Juliet were the last. It was because of unknowns we proved. It also proved what breeders taught me. You can keep trying, a Violet RPA is worth a lot of money. I will not breed that way. I will not lose a bunch of babies in the hope that one will live. My mind is all over the place. Better stop here. good night.
