Dean and I both have been nominated to do the Ice Bucket Challenge - TopicsExpress

Dean and I both have been nominated to do the Ice Bucket Challenge and Ive given it a lot of thought. I hope I dont offend anyone with this post because that is absolutely not my intent. Were not taking the challenge. I have made $100 in donations to a few different organizations and will explain that. ALS is truly a devastating, horrific disease that needs more research and funding and the response has been amazing and beautiful to witness. As a Physical Therapist, I have worked with quite a few patients and caregivers - providing treatment and education for ALS. I am more than aware of what this disease does to patients and their family members. However, I also know first hand that there are many, many other diseases out there that are just as devastating but statistically affect a much larger percentage of our population. For example, approximately 30,000 Americans are currently living with ALS, while approximately 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimers Disease, which is just as devastating for the victim and family members. It is so awesome to see the outpouring of support and giving as well as the awareness this movement has generated for ALS. I hope that the world will continue in this generous spirit for other causes that are just as in need of research and funding. I have made a $25 donation to the ALSA organization, a $25 donation to The Water Project (provides sustainable water projects to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation), and a $50 memorial donation in the name of Edward Harper (my father) to the Alzheimers Association. Continue giving, people. And thank you to my friends who nominated us and inspired these donations.
