Dear Brothers and Sisters, LAW WORKS LEGAL CLINICS FOR UNION MEMBERS “Law Works” which is the initiative under the partnership between the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and The Law Society of Singapore aims to educate working people on their employment rights and obligations in Singapore. Under the partnership, a series of legal primers for targeted groups of working people will be held, monthly legal clinics will be conducted and e-Pocket series will be launched to provide general legal advice and guidance. At the legal clinics, our union members had sought legal advice on various personal matters such as claims, wills, property issues and various legal issues and the feedback from is that they had benefited from the sessions. The next three legal clinics at NTUC Centre, Basement 1, Customer Services Centre from 7 pm to 9pm will be held on the following dates: Dates for Legal Clinics: 15 August 2013 (register by 2 August) 19 September 2013 (register by 6 September) There are limited slots and pre-registration is compulsory. Details required for registration are: • Full Name • NRIC No. • Age • Address • Email • Contact No. • Brief Synopsis of the matter you wish to consult a lawyer Eligibility for legal clinics: • The applicant must be a NTUC member. • The member must not have previously consulted a lawyer on the same matter. • The issue should not be an employment-related one. • Information sought is for Applicant’s personal matter (i.e. not for spouse or family member). • Information sought is not for business, corporate or investment matters. What to expect at Legal Clinics: • Basic legal advice and information will be given. • Only oral advice. • No drafting or vetting of documents and letters. • The member is not able to have a second appointment for the same matter. • Consultation with the volunteer lawyer will not exceed 20 minutes. • The volunteer lawyer will not be able to act for or represent the member in any subsequent legal action.
