Dear Church Family, I regret to inform you that yesterday - TopicsExpress

Dear Church Family, I regret to inform you that yesterday afternoon my son and our church staff member, Rob Cox, was arrested by the Manteca Police Department and charged by the Las Vegas district attorney with manslaughter relating to an incident that occurred one year ago this month. For those of you not familiar with the situation, let me briefly explain. Rob and Julie along with the interns, were on their ministry outreach trip last year and conducted a service in a church in Las Vegas. Following the service the group went together to eat dinner. After finishing their meal, and while preparing to continue their trip to Texas, a very large man assaulted Rob and two of our interns. The man declared that he was going to kill Rob. In self-defense and in an effort to protect the interns, Rob used his weight to push the man back causing him to fall and he hit his head on the concrete. Rob and the interns were treated at the local hospital, Rob for a broken finger and two of the interns for concussions. The man was severely injured requiring brain surgery and an extensive stay in the hospital and a rehabilitation facility. After about six months the man passed away. We retained an attorney in Las Vegas immediately after the incident and our attorney, working with the Las Vegas district attorney and the police department helped us to tell our story and provide them with facts. After several months we received a letter from the Las Vegas district attorney stating the they could find no cause for charging Rob, that his actions were in self-defense. Now after six months the Las Vegas district attorney has decided to charge Rob and he will extradited from Manteca to Las Vegas to face the charge. As you can imagine, we are all in a state of disbelief and covet your prayers and support at this time. Should you have any questions please dont hesitate to call me at the church office. Please pray for Julie and our family and please do not engage in speculation or story telling as that will only complicate the situation. Thank you so much. Pastor Mike Dillman
