Dear Comrades, Discontentment among the newspaper employees has reached the boiling point because of the recalcitrant attitude of the newspaper proprietors in not implementing the Majithia Wage Boards Award. The Honble Supreme Court of India on 7.2.2014 delivered the verdict on the petition of the ABP Pvt. Ltd. and the proprietors of the newspapers have had enough time to implement the Wage Boards recommendations. However, the audacious managements of most of the newspapers did nothing to implement the award. The Honble Supreme Court of India has already issued the notice to the largest newspaper of the country Jagran Prakashan Ltd. on 5.1.2015 asking Shri Sanjay Gupta, the proprietor of the newspaper to explain as to why the contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him. Similarly, the case against two other newspapers namely; Ushodaya Publication vide Contempt Petition (C) No. 571/2014 and Rajasthan Patrika vide Contempt Petition (C) No. 572/2014 have also been registered. These cases may be taken up any Monday of Friday. There appears to be ground swell in the anger and discontentment as the employees of Prabhat Khabar (Bihar and Jharkhand), Nav Bharat (Chhattisgarh) Hindustan Times, Dainik Bhaskar and Nav Duniya have also authorized the IFWJ Secretary General Parmanand Pandey to file the Contempt case against their respective managements. Their petitions will be filed on 21.01.2015. The preparations for filing the Contempt Petitions are in the full swing. We request the employees of other newspapers to come forward and raise the voice for their rights, which have been obtained by the sweat of their brow after long struggle. Meanwhile, large number of employees of the Jagran Prakashan Ltd. has decided to implead in the original petition and also to file the fresh petitions against the Management. The most remarkable thing which have happened is that aggrieved by attitude of a few sold out employees of the Bhaskar management, who withdrew their contempt petition in the Supreme Court, scores of other employees have come openly to blow a hard- slap in the face of the Bhaskar management.
