Dear Friends, Though they may seem to be very casual, this team is now (hopefully) ready to meet the DM and VC MDDA to discuss our proposals for a cleaner and greener Doon. In three years, we have submitted our 76 page garbage report to three Chief Ministers, two DMs, twice to the same Mayor. It was through our RTI that the Nigam disclosed how they had failed to even begin recycling of waste in the given time-frame. Our report identifies 16 garbage hotspots with site maps and photographs. Moreover, we have exchanged various letters with the Nagar Nigam on organizing and incentivizing ragpickers, on the welfare of sweepers and the overall sanitation atmosphere. Clearly, these acts might not sound as exciting as our clean-up drives! But in our view, engaging the Govt. is as important as generating civic awareness. Our constant engagement with the authorities also shows that MAD is not a group of children at play with waste. We are here to seriously help solve long-standing problems. Our scheduled meeting today with VC MDDA was adjourned given Mr. Sunderrams emergency plans. The meeting is expected towards the end of this week. What we also look forward to is our visit to Sahastradhara to test the waters of the stream for possible pollutants. The same was not conducted today as the rains could have lead to misleading results. Moreover, on popular demand, we shall definitely plan a major activity for the coming weekend. Do stay connected.
