Dear ISM brothers and sisters: 1st -The Essentials: As many of you have seen the YR has now a Fb page for the US. This is a milestone. My name is Marius Sidau (aka Nicholas Patricivs), and I am this page’s admin. I grew up in Romania. At age 25 I immigrated to the US. I am a seeker for spiritual light and manifestations of the Sacred. Part of this seeking process was my ordination as an independent Catholic priest (meaning no “strings” attached), in the Liberal Catholic apostolic succession/tradition by the Rt. Revd. Markus Franciscus van Alphen, the founder of the Young Rite. I was for a while under the jurisdiction of the “Apostolic Celtic Church” (NC). Things did not “click” with them. I have decided therefore, that for the time being, the YR suits best my fiercely independent personality & coincides with my spiritual objectives. While journeying towards these objectives, (since really in my view is all about one’s journey & “the PSE”-Personal Spiritual Experience), I asked (and been granted) admission to the YR. So what’s the YR all about? In brief: the whole vision for the YR is not to create a large organization, church etc. It is Diversity. To quote +Markus, essentially the YR is a “Divine Experiment”. One of the YR primary objectives is that the Holy Eucharist is celebrated frequently by as many priests as possible. To that end, the YR advocates a free and universal priesthood in conformity with the commandment of Lord Christ:” Freely you have received; freely give!” (Mt.10:8). The traditional hierarchical structure of clergy vs. laity is dismantled. This is one revolutionary aspect of the YR. Although the sacrament of Holy Orders remains intact, the path is open to all who wish to walk on it. The decision to follow this path lies exclusively with the seeker. This is another revolutionary YR feature. Basic YR percepts: a. Spirituality is inclusive, therefore all may attend. b. Priesthood is for all; therefore all may become priests. c. The individual is paramount. Authority and responsibility lie with the individual, therefore no gurus and as few rules and dogmas as possible. d. Mystery implies an experiential foundation; therefore ritual is used as a vehicle. How does it work? The YR prefers to operate via small independent groups- “circles” of 20-30 people at max., pursuing different lines of spiritual investigation. For example- the group that I am part of in Michigan, follows a line of experimentation in the Byzantine Tradition. We use on weekly bases the (Byzantine) liturgy attributed to +Charles Webster Leadbeather. 2nd: Some necessary details: A. Stay tuned for the rest of the week. The YR US will add new features to its Fb page, such as a “Photo Archive”. Future plans include the creation of a webpage and a blog, as well as attempting to engage you in (hopefully) interesting & meaningful discussions. Since the Young Rite is a center for spiritual development based on the Western esoteric mystery tradition, I hope that discussions/debates would mostly focus on that area. B. In terms of the historical account, the YR is relatively “young”. It started in 2006 with the consecration of +Markus, as a new sprout in the Liberal Catholic three. The YR USA, is even “younger” then the European branch. In spite of this however, there is much enthusiasm for the spiritual possibilities opened by the YR here. C. As of now, the YR USA has 3 authorized celebrants: Revd. Dr. Edward Parkinson, Revd. Marius Sidau (Nicholas Patricivs), & Revd. Joel Wright. A clear difference is made by the YR between “priests” and “authorized celebrants”. Details on this can be found in the YR section “Priest or celebrant” here: youngrite.org/how-does-it-work/priest-or-celebrant/ 3rd To wrap it up: I see the creation of this Fb page, as a new beginning for the YR USA. A fresh start. The opportunity for finding (individually and collectively) new forms/ways/possibilities for experiencing spirituality. The Dharmacakra Pravarta- the law of sequential scheme of development (or in more profane language- the “Law of Cyclicality”, “The Wheel of Dharma”), dictates that the old makes room for the new and the new becomes old. This applies to everything: a human life, a culture, a tradition, an organization. All that exists is born, grows up, grows old and dies. Perpetual death and regeneration. In the context of this cycle, of the contemporary realities and of humanity’s eternal Quest for The Sacred, 2 questions are justified: Is the YR a viable and authentic avenue? It is as groundbreaking & “young” as its name implies? I believe that the answer is positive in both circumstances. Time will tell & show that the YR is a major step forward in the right direction. In conclusion “...the YR is not for everyone, not forever, nor is it complete. It is a work-in-progress and for the time being. There are many paths up to the mountain and this is but one. I believe that the summit is the birthright of every individual and the path by which it is reached is unique and valid for each and every one of us...” (Van Alphen, “The Pillars of the Temple”, p.10). I sincerely hope that the YR will become your path to the mountaintop. Revd. Marius Sidau Sources: a. Van Alphen Markus-The Pillars of the Temple (Lulu Press, 2010) b.
