Dear Randall, Yesterday, in Eastern Kentucky, I unveiled a jobs plan that will put our families back to work. At the worst moment of the recession, Kentucky lost 118,000 jobs — including 35,000 in manufacturing and 18,000 in construction. Our unemployment rate is still too high and more than one in four of our children live in poverty. Click here to read my plan – the first detailed proposal from any candidate in this race. As your next U.S. Senator, putting Kentuckians back to work in good-paying jobs will be my top priority. As hard as it is to hear, if we ask ourselves the question, “Is Kentucky on a path toward a prosperous economic future,” the answer is a resounding “No.” For nearly three decades, Senator McConnell has been given every opportunity to change this. Time and time again he chose to stand with Washington—time and time again he chose not to stand for the people of Kentucky. Once we retire Mitch McConnell, I vow to fundamentally change that dynamic. I vow to be a Senator that fights for you—not Washington special interests. Kentucky families deserve a leader who has their backs. That’s why I’m calling my plan “Our Strength is Our People.” The proposal focuses on specific action steps and goals that will help Kentucky reach its full economic potential. Over the coming months, I will continue to travel across the state to discuss my comprehensive plan. Click here to read the proposal and tell me what you think. My plan for Kentucky will help increase family incomes, encourage business growth, and create new jobs. It will prepare and train Kentuckians for the economy of the future—increasing Kentucky’s competitiveness globally. Delivering these common sense solutions will require a new brand of leadership that cares less about Washington’s silly games and more about giving hard-working Kentuckians a fair opportunity to put food on their tables. So let’s get to work. We can, and must, do better for our families and our future. Alison P.O.
