Dear Sonny, Today marks half a year since the Rana Plaza - TopicsExpress

Dear Sonny, Today marks half a year since the Rana Plaza building collapse claimed the lives of at least 1,132 people. Our new report, Still Waiting: Six months after history’s deadliest apparel industry disaster, workers continue to fight for compensation, co-written with the Clean Clothes Campaign, examines the aftermath of the catastrophe. Chock-full of worker testimonies and photos like this one, Still Waiting calls on the North American and European corporations whose clothing was made in the building to pay their fair share of compensation to the injured workers and families who lost loved ones. As you’ll see in the report, 29 apparel brands and retailers have been linked to Rana Plaza but none of the US brands are even joining meetings to develop a compensation plan. While there has been a lot of attention on Walmart’s responsibility, it’s time to turn up the heat on lesser-known companies like Children’s Place that need to hear more from consumers. As a mom whose daughter wears Children’s Place clothing, I’m making a special appeal today. I’m asking you to join with me in calling on the company to pay the compensation it owes. Please urge Children’s Place to listen to these children. 1) Sign our petition to Children’s Place. 2) Post on their Facebook wall and tweet. Samples: What’s behind the @ChildrensPlace label? Orphans and injured workers demand justice. laborrights.org/stillwaiting .@ChildrensPlace: listen to the orphans. Pay your fair share to victims of the factory collapse. orphansplace Stop ignoring the orphan children. @ChildrensPlace, it’s time to pay up! #EndDeathtraps Thank you.
