Dear Zane I really need some advice my fiance and i have been together for 6 years. Living together for 3. Last year we moved into an apartment complex that stone of his family lives in. They just show up at our apt unannounced whenever they feel. No matter if i have clothes on or not he iell open the door. They usually only stop by if they need to borrow something or need a baby sitter. He feels that its nothing wrong its good family and they are always welcomed. I feel like we need our privacy and they should call before they come. Recently we invited our patents over and cooked for them. Then here comes his family wanting plates and calling other family members to get one. I told my fiancee I felt like they crossed the line. But he feels like Im rude and that i have something against this family. Please let me know am I being rude? MY RESPONSE: Never live that close to family. It works out good for the person whose family it is but often causes drama with the other person. For your fiance, they have been in his life forever and it is almost like a family reunion whenever they drop by. For you, it is an invasion of privacy. You would have been better off living at least five miles from them. That way they will not be walking over in their bedroom slippers, tying their pets to your front stoop, and dropping by for a cup of sugar. Not if it is faster for them to get to a store. I do not feel like you are being rude but this is probably going to be ongoing as long as you live there. The real problem is that he has become complacent with it, may even love it, and you may not be able to convince him to leave. Good luck.
