Dear friends of Carin Graber Finding out I had to go public and let everyone know I didn’t have enough money to pay for my wife’s treatment was a rather humbling experience for me and kind of reminds me a bit of Hurricane Katrina when I knew there was nothing more I could do to help myself or my family to meet the overwhelming situation, nowhere to turn in my own strength or power and for the first time that I could remember, my life was really in someone else’s hands. Why? Well my wife needs to start her Proton Beam Radiation at MD Anderson today and it is what that expert treatment center has recommended for her, really she needed to start it June 23 however she has had that treatment put on hold because she was denied this much needed procedure by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and the denial was dropped on us like a bomb shell so unexpectedly after we had already relocated her to Houston Texas. Since that time we have allowed MD Anderson to submit appeals for us to Blue Cross and when those failed they submitted the final appeal which was overseen by a separate group in California. For some reason they upheld the denial and we are now left with paying for this costly treatment of $90,000 ourselves and time is of the essence because this is cancer in the brain and life threatening. Carin can no longer have surgery according to the doctors and she has already had two brain surgeries to remove the Astrocytoma / Oligodendrogliomain Brain tumor in her frontal right lobe. To have another would put her at too much risk. So this is really her best option and the best cancer hospital in perhaps the world has said so. I am not going to let the insurance companies decide my wife’s fate so I set up an account for people to donate at helpforcaringraber but also along with my dear friend Katrina Porter we planned to have a fundraising event on August 30th at “the Howlin Wolf” in New Orleans Louisiana with a number of New Orlean’s top bands such as Tab Beniot, George Porter, Bonerama, Don Vappie, The Boogie Men , John Mahoney Big Band and others. A big part of this event is also the kind donations of people who feel they want to be part of our solution in finding this money. This Auction will be of great assistance to us in reaching our goal of getting Carin Graber treatment and this donation is tax deductible.
