Dear friends on the East Coast, On September 21 well flood the streets of New York with the largest climate mobilization in history, just as world leaders arrive in town for an emergency climate summit at the UN. Click here to join the the Peoples Climate March on 9/21: Martin Luther King, Jr. said of the landmark law to end segregation, ”this legislation was first written in the streets. From winning the vote for women to ending apartheid, change is often a story of people coming together in person to demand action that opens up a new future for everyone. Lets do it again in 3 weeks -- for the whole planet. Scientists say that, if we act fast enough, we can block a terrifying descent into climate destruction. But world leaders have told Avaaz staff that the single biggest obstacle to the global climate saving deal we need is that politicians don’t believe people care enough. Were about to prove them wrong. On September 21 well flood the streets of New York with the largest climate mobilization in history, just as world leaders arrive in town for an emergency climate summit at the UN. If each of us turns out, and we do it together, well be a force of nature. Click here to join the the Peoples Climate March on 9/21: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/event/climate/Peoples_Climate_March_NYC This is an invitation to change everything. All we need is a single global deal to make a common sense shift away from deadly carbon energy towards the renewables we know work safely. Just that is enough to save all of us. Clean energy can lead to clean air, clean water, clean food and a sustainable future. Countries like Germany are already making the shift and both the US and China have recently made major commitments to clean their energy use. The work making this happen is absolutely unprecedented in the climate world. Almost 800 organizations are backing the march, from 80 labor unions to hundreds of religious congregations to groups as diverse as the New York Immigration Coalition and Physicians for Social Responsibility. So the climate movement that turns out on 9/21 will be bigger, stronger, and more diverse than ever. And its not just New York. Around the world -- in Paris, Berlin, Delhi, Rio, and thousands of other cities -- Avaaz members and other climate hopefuls will set their sights on New Yorks summit and rally with us wherever they live. >From massive marches to tiny flash mobs, theyll gather with friends and neighbors and deliver a millions-strong global petition for 100% to our local politicians — linking us all together in a massive web of citizens who are taking our future back. Lets make the event in New York bigger than anything weve seen before! RSVP now, then pledge to volunteer and share with your friends: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/event/climate/Peoples_Climate_March_NYC The minister of an island nation facing obliteration under rising sea levels just wrote: “The horizon ahead is full of opportunities… I’ve been a politician long enough to know that politics is the art of the possible, and that negotiation requires compromise. But on some things, like the future of my country, compromise is not an option …the agreement we sign must be nothing less than an agreement to save my country, and an agreement to save the world.” We can give his hope, and ours, wings, give it a global voice and millions of boots on the ground in New York City. With excitement for all we will do together, Emma, David, Kira, Heather, Iain, Ricken, and the Avaaz team
