December 3, 2014 1 Corinthians 1:6, 8, 9 (ESV) Even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Sustaining Us to the End God is faithful in sustaining us to the very end of our lives, and ushering into his eternal presence guiltless and sanctified at that last great day. This truth Paul gives the Corinthians is beyond measure in its impact on each of our destinies. It is not up to me to keep myself saved, no more than it was up to me to raise myself from the dead and cause myself to become alive in Christ. Ephesians 2:1 tells us that we were dead spiritually before God awakened us in Christ; we did not save ourselves. Now he tells us today we do not keep ourselves saved. God will sustain you to the end. This great promise should provide us with peace of mind and motivation of heart to serve a Savior who will not allow us to slip from his hand, but will keep us safe and secure for eternity. It is a pitiful affair when we find a Christian brother or sister who is afraid of losing their salvation. How can you lose what God has gifted you with, and further, what he has promised to sustain within you for eternity? We need not fear that a loving and protective heavenly father will take his eyes off of us for an instance and, thereby, allow us to run headlong into the street of sin and become an accident of our own doing. He will not allow that to happen. We are safe, those of us who call him Father and can move from fear and trembling to love, peace, and assurance of salvation.
