Deirdre and I took my Mom to see Into the Woods this afternoon and we all enjoyed it. I was rather nervous about the movie because most of the previews I saw didnt even indicate that this was a musical! What had they done? But, nothing to worry about. This intertwining of fairy tales -- sometimes as dark as the originals -- was pure Stephen Sondheim from beginning to end, with his characteristic clever rhymes, his intricate ensemble set pieces, and lyrics that propel the action rather than suspend it.
