Delighted listening to Desert Island Discs - with crime writer Val McDermid who Alison was at college with. Once sat with her at a dinner listening to Colin Dexter speak on the Morse books, must be over 20 years ago. One thing I will never reveal is the little village she lives in on my dear Northumberland coast. She should be applauded for coming out as a Lesbian on arrival at college in the early 70s aged 17.
