Democrat Amanda Curtis and her husband, Kevin, have close ties to the Industrial Workers of the World. Amanda has written for their publication and Kevin is an organizer. When given the opportunity to distance herself from the group, Amanda has deferred. So what is the IWW? And what does it advocate? In their words: They promote class warfare, saying a class struggle must go on until the workers of the world organize as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the earth. They oppose trade unions, saying they (trade unions) foster a state of affairs which allows one set of workers to be pitted against another set of workers. . . . Moreover, they aid the employing class to mislead workers into the belief that the working class have interests in common with their employers They want to do away with capitalism, saying it is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism. How would they organize society? The army of production must be organized not only for the everyday struggle with capitalists, but also to carry on production when capitalism shall be overthrown. . .we are forming the structure of the new society. It is my opinion that IWW is something more than a union. It is a political movement on the extreme left. The movement is rooted in an economic ideology. Its members self describe as radical, some embracing anarchistic views, others expressing Marxist ideals. All working together into an anti-establishment attitude. What is remarkable is that Montana Democrats nominated someone harboring these views to be their candidate for the US Senate. This was done at a special meeting of the Democrats Central Committee in August. The IWW anti-establishment views go at some of the establishment Democrat groups. IWW has contempt for trade unions (AFL/CIO), cooperatives (darn profit motive), the progressive movement (sell outs), and even European style democratic socialism. It goes without saying they have contempt for the institutions on the right. No where in their literature could I find favorable references to the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. Their view of democracy looks more like Karl Marx than Thomas Jefferson. So what does this all have to say about Amanda Curtis and the Montana Democrat Party? Well, the IWW is unquestionably a radical left organization intend on overthrowing American institutions. Amanda has tried to avoid talking about the IWW. Most Montana Democrats have done the same. Amandas video postings from the legislature give us a clear glimpse of the IWW influence. The Democratic Central Committee embrace of Amanda and these views gives us a glimpse of how far left their party has drifted under Obama. Conservatives should not hesitate to keep these matters front and center in this fall election not only for the US Senate, but for the US House and the Montana Legislature.
