Denver International Airport (DIA) is hosting a temporary art exhibit titled, “here to there,” from Nov. 7, 2014 through Feb. 23, 2015. The majority of the artwork will be installed in the Terminal Art Gallery on level 5 of Jeppesen Terminal, while other installations will be on display near the north and south security checkpoints. “Here to there” is curated in collaboration by the DIA Art and Culture Program and the To Expand Artists, a collective of five local artists. Each of the five artists interpret the theme of moving from “here to there” using their medium of choice ranging from encaustic and wood sculpture to fiber, collage and painting. All artworks were specifically created for the exhibition. “We invited the EXPAND collective to interpret the theme of movement through their artwork, and we hope this original exhibition featuring elements of wood, wax, collage, fiber and oil resonates with our customer’s travel experience,” said DIA Art and Culture Program Manager, Chris Stevens. About the Artists The EXPAND group is comprised of five artists from the Denver metro area: Castle Rock artist, Ken Elliott, Victoria Eubanks, Janice McDonald, Carol Ann Waugh and Mary Williams. They first collaborated in 2012 and have continued to work together on group exhibitions around the state of Colorado. About DIA’s Art and Culture Program DIA’s Art and Culture Program administers the City and County of Denver’s “one percent for art” ordinance which enhances public places and features nearly 30 site-specific works including sculptures, murals and other installations. The pieces are displayed in outdoor landscapes, inside Jeppesen Terminal and on airport concourses, as well as in the train tunnels and on the train itself. In addition to its permanent art collection, DIA curates temporary exhibitions, collaborating with museums, cultural institutions and arts organizations to present the highest quality two- and three-dimensional work. The category focuses on how airports have been transforming from utilitarian hubs of transport to spaces with beautiful works of art, great restaurants, comfy lounges and terrific shopping. DIA was selected by readers as the favorite among 20 airports nominated by the publication.
