Dermot: The hardest part of my job is saying goodbye to contestants Dermot: The hardest part of my job is saying goodbye to contestants Words cannot express how much we adore Dermot. Without his contestant chats, hugs and stern words with the Judges our weekends just wouldnt be the same. However, we can imagine theres one part of his job that can be upsetting - the bit where he has to tell the contestants theyre going home. When we grabbed him for a natter, Dermot confirmed he does get just as emotionally involved with the show as we do. And he has got upset when saying goodbye to his favourite acts - not least tonight as we said goodbye to Kingsland Road. The hardest part of my job is telling the contestants who is going home on the Sunday, Dermot admits. Theres no getting around it, it is what it is. It is always a sad moment but its the reality of the show - and we all know it has to happen. And it gets harder as it goes along. For me, that connection happens before the live shows even start. By the Judges Houses stage you have already got to know everyone and have subconscious favorites. Its my job not to have favourites but you cant help it because when youre a fan of the show and see it all as a viewer - its sad to see them go but at least we know they will do well. Well its good to know were not the only ones who has a good blub when it gets to the contestant Best Bits on a Sunday, so full respect to Mr OLeary who stands on that stage and has to do the honours each week. Tune in next Saturday and Sunday at 8pm on ITV to see the man himself do his thing, as we say goodbye to yet another act. Sob.
