Despite writing to our local councillor for the Broomfields and The Walthams on 6th August , I have had no response , I have therefore sent another letter ! Please feel free to do so [email protected] Please also feel free to contact the council stating the freedom of information act to find out how much land CCC has sold to CHP for this development , the more of us that can do this the better. We are hoping to get posters printed and flyers circulated , any offers of delivering and circulating would be great and I urge you to please put your thoughts and feelings forward to the Parish Council too ASAP. Attached is the letter I sent to Sandra Pontin Dear Councillor Pontin, It has been brought to my attention and that of my neighbours that there is proposed planning ( not yet submitted) for land sited off Cherry Garden Road Great Waltham CM3 1DJ , the current use is access to the scout hut, garage area and public green area as well as being a safe walk through to preschool and school . The rumour of proposed development is often bounded about but it seems this time there is depth to it. I believe initial meetings may have taken place to discuss proposals. I approached both CHP and Chelmsford City Council a few months back when some garages were being taken down both parties denied knowledge of this despite contractor having been ordered to do so. I also broached this subject matter at last years Parish Public Assembly as I had concerns then. The history of Cherry Garden Road , buildings were built from 1950 onwards to provide social housing. Over the years the majority of houses are privately owned although those still owned by CHP have in the most provided accommodation for those from extended families who have spent many generations in this area. As a 1950s road when car ownership and traffic were infrequent , you can imagine that today the road is already overcrowded despite many homeowners paying to accommodate driveways to alleviate traffic issues. The scout hut has a thriving membership operating from a building at the far end of the garages , they also have the benefit of using the large grassed area in front to carry out activities , skills etc. Access to the area is limited with only a car width drive way between 2 bungalows , the access is opposite a private driveway and as you can imagine creates heavy traffic on scout meeting nights . There is a pathway that leads from 2 points off Cherry Garden Road to enable parents and children to walk safely back and from school as well as neighbouring roads and the Model Village. In recent times the area has become neglected and garages have fallen into disrepair. There was confusion for whom responsibility and ownership of the area belonged too. Many residents and non residents have rented garages but no firm records seem to be known ? The already old drainage and sewerage system is in need of attention and could not cope with extra strain . I am in favour for the area to be regenerated but as a garage area not housing , allocated parking spaces and safe access and surface for access to the scout hut and increased lighting for evenings. The village design statement has information regarding parishioners opinions for new building in the Parish. Already the prefab housing has been replaced with social housing at Mashbury Road which is great and soon properties in Barrack Lane will be replaced and extra homes built. Therefore there is no necessity for more homes at present. We live in this village for its sense of community , open space , we hope to have added value to our properties and take pride in our village and the benefits of it , most importantly quality and way of life . Please could you respond with any information you may be able to locate and if we can expect your support in NOT allowing this matter to continue without fair warning and consultation with residents. Kind Regards Jo Palmer
