Devotional for November 16th Be a champion for Christ. Today we conclude 1 Corinthians chapter 9 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. Paul compares the Christian life to that of an athlete. An athlete trains – especially when they don’t feel like it. They punish their body to get better. They prepare for the battle and will succeed or fail based on their preparation. For an Olympic runner, they train for a gold medal. For an NFL player, they train to win the Super Bowl. Paul says there is a crown that faithful Believers will receive, and that he is striving to receive that crown. As Believers we must train so that when we are in the battle, we can succeed. We train by learning to be able to use our Bible and by praying. Notice the commitment for the Bible is far greater than reading. We need to know the Word of God in such a way as to be able to share it with others. We are still here after our conversion for one purpose – to win others to Christ. We cannot do that if we are not prepared. We cannot prepare for such a mission without spending time in the Word of God. We fight a very dangerous and formidable foe – the devil. If we are going to succeed in winning others to Christ, then we have to spend time in the Bible. We also have to pray every day. Prayer changes us, and makes us more Christ like. Commit to spending time in prayer every day. Hope you have a great Saturday.
