Devotional – Tuesday, October 29, 2013 JEHOVAH JIREH “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1) Have you ever found yourself in the desert? It’s not a pleasant place, is it? We know the desert to be hot, dry and unforgiving. You don’t go into the desert without a plan or without food and water. I’ve eaten my share of dust, both physically and spiritually, enough to know that I don’t want to go there again. In the desert we must choose whether we want to live or die. How we respond to the elements determines our survival. The desert is a place of silence. In the silence, Satan often screams the loudest. Can you hear him as he tries to convince you to “curse God and die!”? God is often silent, but why? Could it be that He has already given you everything that you need for the journey! When the Hebrew children were wandering in the desert they called on God. They called Him Jehovah Jireh which means “God is my provider.” These former slaves had no way to earn a living in the desert. Therefore, they had to depend on God for everything. He gave them manna to eat each day and water flowed from the rocks. They could not do this for themselves; only God could provide for them. Have you ever walked through a “spiritual desert”? Shortly after my transplant 20 years ago I found myself wandering in the desert. I felt that my church and most of my friends had forsaken me. Although God had given me an extension of life, I cared nothing about His church or His people. I was drying up spiritually, dying on the inside. Satan was saying, “You deserve better”. But Jesus was whispering, “I love you, Jacky. Would I bring you this far to leave you now?” Thank God I listened to Jehovah Jireh! Yes, God is my provider and He wants to be your provider also!! PRAYER: “Thank you, Father, for never leaving me. You are indeed my provider and my strength.”
