Did everyone in Britain know that a Briton won the TDF - TopicsExpress

Did everyone in Britain know that a Briton won the TDF again? Last year when Bradley Wiggins won the tour, Britain celebrated his success by filling the newspapers with articles about his life. The BBC quickly made a documentary about him and the news never seem to run out of stories pertaining to the TDF champion. This year however, I sense a noticeably muted response to the more convincing win of Chris Froome. His tour was harder, with more aggressive riders. The Sky team seemed to have enough in their arsenal in the beginning of the tour but ended up losing most of it on the first week. Nevertheless Froomie triumphed, won yellow and almost won the KOM! So why the subdued response to a fantastic win? Is it because Chris Froome is not truly British? Is it because he’s bland and not the flash and fashionable athlete like Wiggo or was it because this year Britain won too many sports events, we just got too tired to celebrate another one. For me, Froomie’s victory should be the one most celebrated. He is the epitome of a true champion, a gentleman on and off the saddle; tactful during interviews and honoured and respected on the road. Chris Froome should be the role model that young Britons must idolize; focused, humble, well-bred and educated. We must move away from foul mouthed, brash and chaotic athletes. Why? Because that’s not British. Celebrate, Britain! A true British champion has triumphed!
