Did you know that the great British bee count is on now? There’s currently no accurate picture of the condition of bees in the UK but Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland say We know that bees are going hungry and homeless. A big problem is the loss of their vital habitat, with 97% of wildflower meadows gone in the past 60 years. Already more than 20 species of bee have become extinct - and more than a quarter are under threat. We can’t take bees for granted. These little creatures provide an essential link in our food chain - every day we eat fruit and vegetables pollinated by bees. At Luxury Family Hotels were doing our best to help. Recently The Elms Hotel installed its Bee Hotel, modelled on The Elms and Woolley Grange Hotel welcomed a new swarm a couple of weeks ago. Eliza, our Head Gardener is pleased to report that theyve been laying lots of eggs and making lots of honey which of course next time you visit, youll be seeing at breakfast. To find out how you can get involved in the bee count visit greatbritishbeecount.co.uk and when youre at Woolley Grange or The Elms, do pop down and say hello to the bees.
