Division Two – Week Seven Report Week 7 signals the end of the first round of league matches and the table is now taking proper shape in this closest of divisions. At the bottom end of the table three teams are beginning to lag behind the others but at the top end the runaway leaders’ good form came to an abrupt halt this week as OU Falcons were on the wrong end of a 9-1 thrashing at the hands of last year’s bottom two team NP Lagondas. For Lagondas Simon Read played his first match and came away with three hard fought wins but there were maximums also for Roy Read and Chris Horn as OU’s only win came in the doubles. Second placed Mursley Swallows were able to close the gap on Swallows to seven points as MK Marlborough continue to struggle although in the closest match of the week Marlborough were perhaps a little unlucky to come out on the wrong end of a 4-6 defeat. Maximums for Pete Sear and Vic Sutton for Swallows whilst Jack Atkinson won two and Jitan Pitamber and Audrey Robinson won one each for Marlborough. It was good to see Ralph Hughes back in action for MK Hydra even though he failed to trouble the scorer in a 7-3 win against WS Mosquitoes in the battle of two of the backmarkers. Russell Penn and Osman Sharif won three each for Hydra whilst last week’s “player of the week” Andy Jenkins won only one, along with team-mates John Rodger and Paul Hamer. Finally another surprising result for the Newport Pagnell Club (was it anything to do with them playing at home?) saw NP Blackadders beat MK Classics by a 7-3 scoreline. Only Masoud Nassor with three wins put up any resistance for Classics, who were playing with Dave Burrill in the absence of two of their regulars. Michael Howard, Tony Ardis and John McMahon won two each for Blackadders. There were plenty of contenders for Player of the Week this week with Roy Read and Vic Sutton’s rare maximums standing out. On the other hand as I seem to have jinxed Andy Jenkins by giving him the award last week I think I’ll Nominate Russell Penn and Osman Sharif jointly. Nothing to do with their next fixture of course…
