Do Christians need to repent once they are saved? Even though we are are saved we still sin. Many say that because we are saved we do have to repent while will say we do not sin once we are saved. These people do not know the bible and God word. First what is repent re·pent riˈpent/ verb verb: repent; 3rd person present: repents; past tense: repented; past participle: repented; gerund or present participle: repenting feel or express sincere regret or remorse about ones wrongdoing or sin. the priest urged his listeners to repent synonyms: feel remorse, regret, be sorry, rue, reproach oneself, be ashamed, feel contrite; More be penitent, be remorseful, be repentant the senator claims to have repented view or think of (an action or omission) with deep regret or remorse. Marian came to repent her hasty judgment archaic feel regret or penitence about. Joel was talking to the believers when he said. Joel 2:12 12.Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: 13.And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Some Christians justify there sin by claiming to be saved. How many people do YOU know personally who are SPIRITUALLY BLIND to the TRUTH and follow instead an image of GOD in their OWN mind who is OK with sin and doesn’t care if you follow Him in Spirit and Truth? Matthew 15:14-18 (KJV) 14 Let them ALONE: they be BLIND LEADERS of the BLIND. And if the blind LEAD the blind, both shall FALL into the ditch. 15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16 And JESUS said, Are ye also yet WITHOUT understanding? 17 Do NOT ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they DEFILE the man. I often hear professed Christians ignorantly say things like “I think my God would have a sense of humor about that“, OR “I think my God would be OK with that” even when what they are trying to justify IS SIN itself! Many I hear often state “We’ll if I am wrong about a few things, God will show me after I die.” Yet I am troubled why it appears that so many of these professed Christians aren’t CONCERNED nor do they seem to CARE about being corrected by His Word while they are still alive on this earth today. Why is it at times there is such a lack of discernment amongst His sheep? Is it not of utmost importance that we are pleasing to God in all things now? But just like a rebellious child however many of us simply don’t want to be corrected. I can remember my own struggle with the flesh years ago and its not like any of us are immune to that struggle even today as a Christian. As Christians, we only need to go back and read the Old Testament to see that God smote a whole people for their deliberate disobedience. He didn’t laugh as if it was no big deal when they were in “error” or look the other way in being TOLERANT to flat out ignorance once the truth was revealed to them. Matthew 23:15 Nowhere in Holy Scripture do I see it recorded where God said “Oh those silly Pharisees, graven image and idol worshippers…they crack me up every time but all is well, I really don’t mind their rejection of me“. John 8:24-25 Make no mistake, our God is not amused. Matthew 23:33 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8 YES Jesus Christ is just to forgive our sins but His Word also tells us to repent in Acts 3:19 when we sin and still make a sincere attempt to turn from that which God hates even if it is difficult at times. We’ve all been there, including myself. It’s not a “free” get of jail card just by stating you are a Christian. It’s not a pass to keep on sinning. We will all struggle with sin because we are imperfect but we should feel the need to repent daily of that sin because it is THAT sin which nailed our Savior Jesus Christ to the cross. And if a person doesn’t feel the sincere desire or conviction to repent of their sin, they might want to ask themself if they were ever really born-again to begin with at all? We as Christians should repent daily: Luke 11:1 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.” Mark 11: 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” Acts:26 :19-20 “Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance. 2 Corinthians 7 9-11 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. 10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. ß(because they repented and turned!) Matt 6:14-15 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15. but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ß(here we see Jesus showing us that we will bear our sin if we also do not forgive!) Luke 17 3-4 3. Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, 4 and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” Romans 4: 7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Please, Please Read Matthew chapter 16: 13-28 and Chapters 17-18. You will see Jesus saying “what ever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven”. What does He mean? He explains it in another parable of the “unforgiving servant” in Matt 18: 21-35. Jesus is showing us that what ever “grudges” or “debts” we hold on earth WILL follow us to heaven! Jesus explains this to Peter and us 3 different ways here in Matt 16-18! This is very important to understand. All Christians will stand before the judgement seat of Christ. he Bible talks about the Judgment Seat of Christ--also referred to as the bema--in three places: Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:10--4:5; and 2 Corinthians 5:1-10. Only church-age saints will appear at that judgment, as shown in 2 Corinthians 5:10: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. The purpose of the bema is an exhaustive evaluation of our lives. First Corinthians 4:5 says the Lord will come and bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each ones praise will come from God. That passage reveals Pauls emphasis on the judgment seat of Christ. Notice that Paul says each mans praise will come to him from God. God gives rewards to the victors; He does not whip the losers. We know that He wont condemn us for our sins at that point, because Romans 8:1 says, There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Thus, the purpose of the judgment seat of Christ is to examine a Christians total life. We will be recompensed for the deeds we have done, whether good or bad (2 Cor. 5:10). The term used there refers to a summing up and estimation of the total pattern of a believers life. This overall focus should keep us from worrying over every stupid thing weve ever done, or thoughtless sin we have committed. Its a time of reward, not punishment. At the same time, while we wont be condemned for our sins, our present lives do affect what will happen at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Heres how: Sin and indifference in this life rob us of our present desire for serving the Lord. That in turn means a loss of rewards, because we will not have used our time to His glory. That is why Paul exhorts us to be careful how [we] walk, not as unwise men, but as wise, making the most of [our] time, because the days are evil (Eph. 5:15-16, NASB). Sin and indifference result in a loss of power in our lives because sin grieves the Holy Spirit. Sin and indifference cause us to pass up opportunities for service, which we would otherwise perform and be rewarded for. The greatest consequence of unfaithfulness here on earth is that it disappoints Christ. First John 2:28 says, And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. That is a sobering thought--we could be ashamed as we stand before the Lord. At the same time, it should encourage us with the prospect of receiving His lavish rewards if we serve Him faithfully during our time here on earth.
