Do u remember Weasel? He was brought into a southern kill - TopicsExpress

Do u remember Weasel? He was brought into a southern kill shelter...so completely petrified, that no one could get within 15 ft of him. He would wedge himself between the plastic dog kennels and the wire fencing - trying desperately to disappear. He had to be essentially trapped so they could transport him up north to us. I remember seeing his pictures and his video - and my heart just breaking at the level of terror this dog was feeling as he lay waiting to be killed. A plea for foster was placed and an amazing man answered. I remember vividly telling Mario on the phone that I was nervous that Weasel would be too much for him. As anyone who has cared for a fear dog can tell u, they are the epitome of unpredictable. A dog who is that frightened views every single encounter as a fight for his life, which means anything can happen. I was afraid that Weasel would get to Mario and he would not be able to handle him. Boy was a I wrong. Gio became his new name for his new life. Mario - with the patience of a saint - worked slowly and gently with Gio at Gios own pace. Eventually, he went from the cowering, untrusting Weasel to the confident, stoic Gio that he is today. It is because of people like Mario that these severely broken dogs have a chance. They take a certain type of person - and I will be the first to say that not everyone can do it. It requires 100% commitment to never give up and to love them regardless of their fears. Because of Mario - Gio lives! Oh yeah, we so love this part! ******************************************************************* From Mario: A little over a year ago I took a chance on an abandoned, scared shelter dog with no hope that no one could touch and made him a part of my pack. He has come a long way on his journey from being Weasel to his new name of Gio and his new home. He has learned what it is like to be loved and cared for and have friends that will do him no harm. He has taught me a lot and returned every bit he has been given. Enjoy the ride my little man!
