Domestic abuse is one of the largest evils in our society. Its effects are much more far reaching than just the victim who is physically or emotionally assaulted (ie. father assaulting mother). In families with children, unhappy parents need to understand that the impact on their kids witnessing such acts of mistrust and violence is PERMANENT. Divorce before this happens. If not treated, abuse has the potential to carry down through the family -- whether consciously intended or not, the effects will show. In victims of abuse and in their children, what this does is breed mistrust of both men and women alike, and relationships become impossible to maintain for the rest of your life. Believe me, I would know. Finding love and having families of their own is not a real or sustainable option for survivors of abuse who have not sought therapy or another means of healing, as the great fear is that the permanent wounds and deep scars within them that are unhealed will impact others in harmful ways -- which they definitely will. And even with help and support this can still be the case. If you are a victim or survivor of domestic abuse, PLEASE get the help you need to ensure that this pattern does not carry forward and injure those you love the most. And learn to love, and to forgive, and to let go of that which can destroy lives permanently.
