Don’t go down to Egypt for help The saddest event in the entire life of Abraham happened when he went down to Egypt. He made a decision that brought tremendous trouble not only to his own life but also to the lives of others as well. (Genesis 12:10-20) Because of the famine in the land of Canaan, he (Abraham) and his family went down to Egypt. According to the Word of God, Egypt is always presented as a type of the world; with a Hebrew name called ‘MIZRAM’ which means a place of straits and tribulations. If we can recall very well after God brought him to the promise land (Canaan), famine occurred. Being a Christian does not elude problems and challenges from your way, as a matter of fact its just the beginning. But blessed be the name of the Lord who is able to see us through (Isaiah 43:2).The test every believer will always face is the test of faith and that is what God did to Abraham. Today many Christians are networking, strategizing, and borrowing worldly methods, getting flesh-inspired counsel, looking for things that will make them forget the presence of God. Remember, the bible makes us to understand that in this Godless world we will continue to experience difficulties, but take heart! I have conquered the world (John 16:33 Message version). As long as we are Christians, trials will surely come our way. Each one you overcome leads to the next one. If you are not facing a trial right now, praise God! But the news is: be ready because one will surely come your way. What will be your testimony in life if you do not go through trials? You can only handle the trials you are going through now or will go through when you focus your attention on God and allow His working grace to work in your life. He (God) said, ’my grace is sufficient for you‘. Instead of asking God to make it easier, ask him to make you stronger to bear all these trials. ”My friend, consider yourself fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trails, the result is the ability to endure (James 1:1-2 Good news translation). King James put it this way; ”My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience”. Let me make a clarification here about trial and temptation. Trial is a test of faith, patience or stamina by suffering but temptation is an inducement to do something wrong with promise of pleasure or gain. God test people but he does not tempt them by trying to seduce them into sin. God sometimes allow satan to tempt His people in order to refine their faith and help them grow in their dependence on christ. As a Christian, all test(s) we go through is for us to submit them to God and not to run away from it/them. After David was anointed as a King his first assignment was the test of his faith.(1samuel 17:37-48). If David had ran away from goliath, what do you think could have happened to David? After the victory, his name spread all over Israel. Your glory is about to shine if only you can hold on to Him and trust Him in that trial(s) you are going through. A champion do not run away from battles, he faces them and most time he always believe he will surely come out victorious. Now I call that a winning spirit. That you are going through trials today does not mean God has forgotten you, He has not, He is working out something in your life. I have been in that situation before and i can tell that its better to seek God than to go down to Egypt for help. Do you know that what you are going through now someone has gone through it before and they overcame it. ”there is no new thing under the sun.”(Ecc 1:9). There are a lot of consequences going back to Egypt, there will be loss of communication with God, the solution you get in Egypt wont last, it will be for a while. Therefore, what is the way out? Psalm 121:1: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. Note: You don’t solve spiritual problem with worldly method. Because everyone is doing it and they are going scot-free does not make it right for you to do. Confession: Im working in power Prayer: Strengthen my faith in you oh Lord. Oluwatoyin Adebowale KEY ©2014
