Dr. King understood. The Emancipation Proclamation couldnt proclaim a group of ENSLAVED people to be FREE. My people were never SLAVES, INFERIOR, BARBARIC, or UNINTELLIGENT. We were ALREADY FREE. The proclamation probably should have went more like... We have done a terrible disservice to a group of human beings. We messed up. We kidnapped human beings. We sold them as products. We separated their families. We raped their women. We beat them physically and mentally. We destroyed, omitted, and stole their culture. Weve done horrible things to this group of people. We are sorry. We dont proclaim that now, in our pseudo superior perspective, that the African Americans are free. We now realize that we were the BARBARIANS for our unspeakable cruel acts. We must do away with our old ways and practices, for we took a group of human beings that were already free. African diaspora, how can you ever forgive us for our heinous acts against a fellow brother in mankind? We are sorry. Were going to do everything to make it right. Today, we proclaim our fault. Today this ends. Tomorrow, is a better day for us all in love.
