Dress up [4] – Still a child? “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” - 1 Cor 13:11 (NLT) There are some things children do that you overlook because they are just being childish, for instance a child cries when they are hungry; so many times they ask a lot of questions that amazes you until you remember that they are just kids. At times you don’t mind if your little boy walks around in his underwear at home; often times we are not really worried about their dressing because they are still children. However, when your 21 year old dresses like a 2 year old, you become worried, if your 21 year old begins to cry because he is hungry, there is a really big problem, Paul was talking about love and the characteristics of love in 1 Corinthians, but when he got to verse 11, he talked about some things that you do because you are a child, but when you grow up, you ought to put away childish things. Dressing up in love is what matured Christians do, when you struggle with putting on love as God commanded us to (John 13:34), then it means you have not grown up. Unforgiveness, pride, selfishness, arrogance, impatience, envy, jealousy etc are all signs of immaturity. Paul is saying that we need to grow up and dress up in love. Maturity is patience, kindness, humility, gentleness, forbearing others, forgiving others, contentment etc which are all signs of love. Sometimes, we do not attain all that God intends for us to because we have not grown up into love, we are still children when it comes to love as God commanded. When heaven looks at us, we are naked because we are not properly dressed. “Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better off than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had.” Gal 4:1 (NLT) We are being challenged to dress up in love, to move from the place of immaturity to the place of spiritual maturity so that we can enjoy the wonderful inheritance God has for us. Confession I am no longer a child in the things of the spirit, I have put on LOVE as God commanded, therefore I will enjoy my inheritance in Christ Jesus. Halleluyah!
