Driving back from Atlanta tonight I found myself thinking back on - TopicsExpress

Driving back from Atlanta tonight I found myself thinking back on high school. It became a regular thing for me to leave the house every morning without lunch money. Usually because I was absent minded, but mostly because I would oversleep every single day and I was constantly breaking records for rocketing out of bed, showering, styling my mullet to pristine condition and then breaking the sound barrier to school before the tardy bell. So when lunch time came I found myself with a dilemma. But the human need to survive always finds a way. And I learned to Lag. For those of you not in the know, lagging is a game of skill, using quarters and a steady hand. And yes, its gambling. You risk a quarter in your pocket, (or in my case I was reduced to begging someone to let me have a quarter) against someone elses quarter by standing a predetermined distance from a wall and seeing who could throw or lag the quarter and it land closest to it. If you were the closest quarter to the wall, (and sometimes were talking millimeters difference from your opponents quarter) then you won all the quarters on the floor belonging to the other contestants. Sometimes there would be 4 or 5 other guys in the contest so the pot could get really big for one lag. My lagging skills got pretty good and I could show up to school on any given day without any cash but Id always find myself in the lunch line with a couple of bucks in my pocket, thanks to a few minutes set aside in 4th period for a little friendly wagering. So Id just like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the guys who stepped up and emptied their pockets to partake in a little sport back then. Because of your misfortune Ive enjoyed many a Viking Special. Happy Tuesday.
