Dual Status Terms Definition of Terms (dual exceptionalities) or (twice-exceptional) Students with dual exceptionalities belong to both gifted and at least one other exceptional population (special education group). These students include, but are not limited to the following types of gifted learners: •Gifted learners with learning disabilities (Gifted LD) •Gifted learners with emotional and/or behavioral problems •Gifted Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) learners •Gifted students with physical disabilities •Aspergers Syndrome (learning disability) Students with a learning disability demonstrate a large discrepancy between intellectual ability and academic achievement. An intellectual test score and an accompanying achievement test score at least two years lower illustrates this discrepancy.
