Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes: Hello Everyone, we are approaching our main fundraiser for this year on this Saturday the 31st of June 2014, the “Club Classic”. Lets’ hope the weather is kind to us. Make sure to bring your friends from outside the club for an enjoyable day with great prizes on offer. There is also prizes for non qualifier teams (non GUI or ILGU handicaps). The presentation is on Saturday night 9.30pm with music in the clubhouse. Well done to the ladies on qualifying for the next round of the Miele trophy. They were victorious over a strong north West Team under the captaincy of Maggie Foy. Well done to all. The men’s Donegal League team were unfortunate not to go through to the next round on Monday Evening. The club wishes Greencastle the best in the next round and thank Billy for all his work getting the team ready. The presentation for the Hickey Clarke and Langan Competition prize winners will be on this Saturday the 31st of May 2014 to co-inside with the presentation for the Club Classic and there will be music in the clubhouse that night. The band is “Hot Tamales2 and will play from 9.30pm until 12 midnight. Well done to the Miele team, under the guidance of Captain Maggie Foy, winning against NW Golf Club. The next match will be against Ballyliffin and the team Captain will be monitoring performance, as she considers selection for the next round! Dunfanaghy Ladies; On Saturday, the annual Hickey Clarke and Langan Open took place. The weather was fine, which was reflected in the scoring with Lorraine Mc Aleese claiming first prize with a magnificent 42 points. The results were as follows: 1st Lorraine Mc Aleese (16) - 42pts 2nd Sandra Mc Ginley (25) - 34pts B/t Gross Amy Chambers (2) - 30 gross pts 3rd Mary Lafferty (21) - 34 pts B/t Visitor Deirdre Britton (14) 34 pts B/t North West Golf Club Front 9 Joan Cowan (19) - 17 pts Back 9 Natalie Cummings (13) - 20 pts Twos: D Britton, S Curran and R NI Chuireain CSS: 69 - 36pts The presentation of the above prizes will take place on Saturday 31 May at approx. 9pm. If possible, please attend or send a representative to collect your prize. It is a busy time of the year for golf but remember to invite your friends and family to enter a team in the Club Classic on Saturday 31 May. Tee times can be booked online or ringing the shop before 12. Other dates for your diary include: Clarence Shield GOY - Sat 7 June Past Lady Captains - Friday 13 June Juvenile notes; Saturdays competition was won by Conor Cheevers from Kyle Mc Garvey in second place, in the Cadet section Oisin Cannon came out on top from Ben Smyth with Andy Ward showing everybody how the 9 the holes on the putting green should be played. Normal competitions continue for the coming weeks with a few big ones not far away, so the boys/girls should keep practising. It is hoped to get a regular girls competition started in the next few weeks. Ryder Cup Grand Final Alert!!!!!!!!!!!! We are now into the last week of the Four Person Team event. Make sure to give it a go as everyone will want to qualify for the final and we are running out of months. Remember you can play any day of the week in this competition. The club would like to extend our sympathies to the Butler Family on the recent death of Peter Butler. Peter was a former captain in Dunfanaghy Golf Club (1966). He played an important role in the running of the club in the years he was a member of the club. He would have been 99 years of age.
