Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes: It was Gerald’s Captain’s week - TopicsExpress

Dunfanaghy Golf Club Notes: It was Gerald’s Captain’s week and what a great week we have had on the course and in the clubhouse. We had Gerald’s Captain’s prize to the Ladies on Tuesday and well done to our new member, Laura Mc Elhinney who captured 1st place. Then on Thursday we had the Scotch foursomes and Deborah Moore was in the winning enclosure again with Rodger Greene. What a great season Deborah is having. Keep it up. On Friday we had the Captain’s scramble. There was a huge turnout with nineteen teams taking part. Well done to Cairns and Paula who had the burgers ready for everyone when they came in off the course. Then on Saturday it was Gerald’s Captain’s prize. There was a huge turnout on the day. The weather was not kind but all the men braved the elements and took part in Gerald’s day. There were over 140 men on the course on Saturday. Well done Bobby Carey who was victorious. Bobby’s 60 over 18 holes certainly set the pace for the 9 hole playoff and while the chasing pack tried to reel him back he held his nerve for a popular victory. Jim Carey was at a wedding and he would have been very proud of his son’s performance. The food was fantastic and the music during the day was great with Andy. And that night everyone entertained by the band Copperhead. Well done to all the prize winners. Dunfanaghy Ladies Notes; The Dunfanaghy ladies competed in challenging conditions on 12th August for the Captain’s Prize to the Ladies. Blustery winds and squally showers made conditions difficult in what was also the monthly medal, counting towards the Golfer of the Year prize. Congratulations to new member Laura McElhinney (36) who tamed the course with a nett 64. This is a tremendous achievement for Laura who only acquired her handicap mid July. Caitlin Hegarty (18) was second with a nett 68 and Sandra McGinley (23) was third with a nett 69. Maggie Foy (9) won the gross with 81. June Nelson (24) and Robyn McConnell (15) won the two nines with nett 34s. There were two 2s - Sandra McGinley at the 7th and Maggie Foy at the 9th. 12 ladies travelled to Rosapenna on the 16th August, Mr Captain’s day in Dunfanaghy. The ladies again had to contend with very stormy conditions but this did not deter Alayne Treacher and Robyn McConnell from playing nice golf and being the best of the Dunfanaghy ladies, with 38 points, in Rosapenna’s 4BBB competition.
