Dutch Gouverment and animal healthcare organizations with WUR ( Wageningen University)have published a list ( 19-6-2012) of pets in the Netherlands that will be banned as pet . Also they have published a positive list of pet animals that probably may be kept under strict regulations, what these regulations are is yet to be published, we don’t believe these will be very positive. The chinchilla is one of these animals on this list as it is believed to absolutely unsuitable and dangerous pet. Also there is a list of animals that are suitable a pet, with for example (production animals) rabbit, brown rat, mouse, guinea-pig, gold hamster, horse, donkey, pig, goat, deer, water buffalo, sheep, mink ( until 2018, as mink farming will be forbidden) Animals that are kept with restrictions are: alpaca, camel, ferrets, wallaby’s, gerbil’s ,opossums, tapir, squirrels, chinchilla’s, reindeer etc The outcome and given arguments of this list is in violation of the “Andibel “arrest that was made by the European Community. All chinchilla lovers are signing a petition against this new law, give us your support. As you all can see the chinchilla is the animal on this positive list that has been one that is domesticated for almost 100 years. Non of the bred chinchilla’s could survive in the wild. In the wild they are almost extinct. Yes, off course we understand that keeping a chinchilla is not for children under 6 years and yes the chinchilla is an nocturnal animal and to keep them you need a certain knowledge about the animal but this is also needed for other animals. Several foreign studies prove that the chinchilla is very suitable as an pet. As there are no wild chinchilla’s lanigera are imported , the living wild population is steadily growing chinchillaclub/members/mag/0604cons.html The quote that chinchilla’s are unsuitable as pet is pure bases on assumptions and based on the many studies made in the USA an Latin America’s. I even dare to says that all the professors connected to the WUR ( Wageningen university) have ever seen a chinchilla , or even made a study about the behaviour of the animal. Instead of referring to all excellent studies made abroad they gave an advise based on assumptions. Therefore we started a petition against putting the Chinchilla on a positive list, please help us to sign this petition , as this list will be an example to the European rules for pets in the near future. huisdieren.nu/over-pvh/tegen-positieflijst/
