EBOLA IS HERE Despite apparently following very rigorous protocols, one of the nurses who treated a repatriated #Spanish missionary infected with the #Ebola #virus in #SierraLeone has been infected. Manuel García Viejo, the priest, died only three days after arriving to #Madrid. Ebola is believed to spread through bodily fluids, so direct contact is to be avoided. The 30-person medical team who treated the patient used full protective gear and followed the appropiate procedures when removing contaminated gear. However, somehow, the deadly virus found a way to spread. While #Spains #health minister, Ana Mato, has urged people to remain calm, this is obviously a new situation no one in Europe or in the United States was expecting, given the rigorous measures and means available to prevent the transmission of this kind of disease in western countries. In the case of Madrid, the entire floor of the hospital where the patient was being treated had been sealed off and turned into an isolation unit. After treating the priest, the nurse went on holidays with her family, so now authorities are trying to determine if the virus may have spread even further. Scary stuff.
