ELECTIONS DAY IS HERE Today is the 20th of May 2014. The Malawian public is voting for the country’s next president. Malawians are urged to vote wisely and refrain from inciting violence. The country has 12 parties participating in the elections, with four major parties, United Democratic (UDF) front led by Atupele Muluzi Malawi Congress Party (MCP) led by Lazarus Chakwera, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led by Peter Mutharika and People’s Party (PP) led by President Joyce Banda. These are the first tripartite elections since Malawi gained independence. The elections this year are also tightly contested compared to previous election with chances of a landslide win very slim.
