ELECTRICITY, WATER TARIFFS UP BY 12.09 PER CENT AND 6.05 PER CENT RESPECTIVELY. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has increased electricity and water tariffs by 12.09 per cent and 6.05 per cent respectively. However, the implementation date for the review would not take immediate effect for the second quarter of the year which commences on April 1, 2014. In January 2014, the PURC announced an increase of 9.7 per cent on electricity and 6.80 per cent on water precipitated by the full implementation of the automatic adjustment formula (AAF). A statement signed by the Chairman of the PURC, Dr Emmanuel K. Annan said the current load shedding and unsatisfactory service delivery by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) was the reason for the postponement.
