EMERGENCY ROOM TECH CHRISTUS Health - San Antonio-TX (San Antonio, Texas Area) Job Description I. POSITION SUMMARY: The Emergency Room Technician works with the RN’s in the Emergency Room to provide care to patients. They have special skills beyond those of a Patient Care Assistant for example, they can perform venipuncture, dress wounds, removal staples and sutures, and measure peak expiratory flow rate. EDUCATION: 1. A High School Diploma or GED is required. 2. Completion of one of the following educational programs is required: a) Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant program OR b) Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program OR c) Successful completion of a Basic EMT program (Intermediate EMT or Paramedic preferred). B. EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or EMT field/Emergency Care Setting required. C. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: 1. Current CPR certification required. 2. If certified as Nursing Assistant, Associate must maintain current certification. 3. If certified as a Medical Assistant, maintaining current certification is preferred. 4. If certified as an EMT, maintaining current certification is preferred. D. EQUIPMENT/SKILLS: 1. Pulse Oximetry 2. Glucose Meters 3. Venipuncture 4. Staple/suture removal 5. Peak expiration flow rate 6. Monitoring Equipment (Spacelabs) 7. Meditech Skills 8. Processing Lab work E. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Works in a modern facility. 2. Walking, standing, and heavy lifting are required. 3. Must adjust to changing workloads and constant interruptions. 4. May encounter body fluids and exposure to infectious disease. 5. Must also successfully complete the pre-employment/post job offer health screening examination, and the annual screening each year thereafter as an employee. F. OTHER: 1. Performs other duties as assigned.
