EN - Foreign Affairs Council - Turkey & #PressFreedom Press Conference by High Representative Federica Mogherini - Q&A (extract) 15.12 David Carretta, Radio Radicale: And if I may, a second question on #Turkey, I know that it was not in the agenda Prime Minister (sic) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today that what is happening now its not your business, its not the business of the #EU, Id like to know if you had any reaction on that ? #FedericaMogherini: On Turkey, yes, Ive seen the reaction from President Erdogan, and I am very surprised, because in the visit we had last week, we discussed in a very constructive way, both with him, with Prime Minister Davutoğlu, with many of the ministers about the way ahead, and we agreed ... we didnt even need to agree on the fact that there was a chance for a new start among us, between the EU and Turkey. We have a new Commission here, a new government started only few months ago in Turkey, actually we were there the 100 days of the new government, and it was members of the government that were telling us that the EU path for Turkey is not so much about economic interests but about values and principles, starting from democracy and rule of law. And I believe it is in the Turkish interest, first of all, to #BeConsistent with these #commitments. They know that on this side, in Europe, in Brussels, there is this will to work on this new start, otherwise we wouldnt have paid a visit, such a high level, with 2 of my colleagues, and so high level meetings. The idea was, and I would say still is to work in a consistent and a coherent way, on the EU accession way. This means consistency and coherence on both sides. On our side, we are ready. © Frédérick Moulin 2014 - EU2014 - All rights reserved.
