[EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CROATIAN RESTAURANTS] Restaurants in Croatia usually work until midnight. But bars can be open until 2 a.m. There are not many round-the-clock establishments, you need to learn about them beforehand. There is a simple rule: the farther a restaurant or pizzeria is from the quay or the town center, the cheaper prices it offers. Near the quay, you may pay as much for a simple bun as for lunch. Croatian cuisine combines Mediterranean, Slavic and Eastern cuisines due to the fact the territory of the country was under the rule of different nations for centuries. You have to try seafood. Fish and other sea gifts are especially tasty in cities/towns located near the warm sea. Many dishes include olive oil. If you really want cheap food and local color, choose places where Croats go to have breakfasts and dinners. It is a sure way, as such places have no exaggerated exotism and you can see how Croats live and communicate, what they prefer. Besides, the locals certainly know where food is tastier. Ask any of the hotel staff about such places. In addition to words «restouracjia», «restoran», you can also find «konoba» which stands for a local cuisine restaurant, usually family oriented. Confectionery is easy to find, it is called «slasticarna», pubs are called «pivnica» by locals. Do not leave money on the table, it’s better to give it to the waiter. As a rule, the bill does not include tip, but good manners require a tip which is 10-15 percent of the order value.
