EXCITING LECTURE TOMORROW We are most pleased to welcome Chris Gosden, to give a lunchtime lecture as part of our celebrations for the 50th anniversary of archaeology in Sheffield. His talk is entitled “English Landscapes and Identities: Exploring the English Landscape from 1500 BC to AD 1086.” Chris Gosden, an undergraduate (1974-7) and a postgraduate student (1979-1982) at the Department, will be speaking on Tuesday October 1st at 13:00 in the Departmental Lecture Theatre, Northgate House, West Street. He has worked in Papua New Guinea, Borneo and Turkmenistan, as well as in various parts of Europe. He has recently finished a book on British Celtic art (with Duncan Garrow) and is developing a new project on the Eurasian art. He has almost finished a book on the English collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum looking at material culture and the construction of national identity. He is leading a project on the history of the English landscape - the subject of his talk. We hope you will join us for this wonderful lecture!
